SSIC Section F – Construction

Companies in this section construct buildings and civil engineering works, or do specialised parts of construction work.

Building construction covers complete buildings such as homes, offices, shops, factories and farm buildings. Civil engineering covers works such as roads, bridges, tunnels, railways, airfields, harbours, pipelines, sewers, power lines and sports grounds. The work can be new construction, repair, additions, alterations or temporary structures, and the erection of prefabricated buildings on site.

Specialised trades include demolition, site preparation, electrical and plumbing work, air-conditioning and lift installation, renovation, finishing and piling. A main contractor that is responsible for the whole project is in this section, even if it subcontracts the work. The section also covers the restoration of heritage buildings and the prefabrication of building components.
