Industries based on Singapore Standard Industrial Classification (SSIC)
Every company in Singapore tells ACRA what business it does, with a 5-digit SSIC code. Its main business is its primary (principal) activity. A company can also add one more business as its secondary activity.
For example, a company that bakes bread and cakes and also runs a small café can use 10712 Manufacture of bread, cakes and confectionery as its primary activity, and 56112 Cafes as its secondary activity.

Frequently asked questions
What is the SSIC?
The Singapore Standard Industrial Classification (SSIC) is the national standard for classifying economic activities in Singapore. The Singapore Department of Statistics (SingStat) publishes it and updates it about every five years. SSIC 2025 was published on 15 April 2025. It is based on the International Standard Industrial Classification of All Economic Activities (ISIC Rev. 5) of the United Nations.

How is an SSIC code structured?
SSIC 2025 has five levels. A section has a letter. The lower levels have codes of 2 to 5 digits, and each code starts with the code of the level above it.
| Level | Code | In SSIC 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Section | One letter | 22 |
| Division | 2 digits | 82 |
| Group | 3 digits | 212 |
| Class | 4 digits | 390 |
| Sub-class | 5 digits | 988 |
What is a primary (principal) activity?
ACRA calls the main activity of a company its primary business activity. SingStat calls it the principal activity: the activity that contributes the most to the value added (VA) of the goods and services that the company produces. Each company gets its SSIC code from this activity.
How is the principal activity determined?
SingStat uses the top-down method. First, find the section that contributes the highest VA. Then find the division with the highest VA in that section, then the group, and so on, until the class and its sub-class. So the code at the lowest level always agrees with the code at the highest level.
In the SingStat example, Division 27 (Manufacture of electrical equipment) contributes the highest VA, so the code of the company is 27201 Manufacture of primary batteries.
What is a secondary activity?
A secondary activity is another activity that the company carries out for its customers, which is not its principal activity. ACRA calls it the secondary business activity. A company does not have to declare one.
Can a company have more than two activities?
Yes. A company updates its primary and secondary business activities in Bizfile. To add more activities, it files a General Lodgement (Others) with ACRA, with an SSIC code for each activity. The ACRA open data shows only the primary and the secondary activity.
When did ACRA change to SSIC 2025?
On 9 May 2026, ACRA converted the codes of all registered entities from SSIC 2020 to SSIC 2025. Some SSIC 2020 codes were split into two or more codes, some were merged, and some got a new description. A company whose new code does not show its activity correctly can file a change in Bizfile.
What does "n.e.c." mean?
"n.e.c." means "not elsewhere classified". A code that ends in "n.e.c." covers the activities that no other code in the same level describes. So every activity has a code, however small it is.
