SSIC Section U – Activities of households as employers of domestic personnel
Companies in this section are households that employ domestic staff to work in their own home.
The staff can be domestic workers or maids, or other domestic staff such as cooks, waiters, butlers, valets, chauffeurs, gatekeepers, caretakers, governesses, tutors and housekeepers.
This section lets domestic staff state what their employer does in censuses and surveys, even though the employer is a person, and the household uses the work itself. Companies or individuals who sell services such as cooking, tutoring or babysitting are classified in their own industries.
