SSIC Section M – Real estate activities

Companies in this section own, rent out, buy, sell, develop or manage property, or act as agents for others in property deals.

Much of the section covers owners and landlords. They develop land and buildings to sell or rent, buy and sell property, rent out homes, offices, malls, factories and land, and run serviced apartments. Real estate investment trusts (REITs) whose income comes mainly from rent are also included.

The section also covers services for a fee or commission, such as real estate agents, valuers, property managers and town councils. The building work itself is classified in construction, and managing property funds for a fee is classified in finance.
