SSIC Division 08 – Mining and quarrying

Companies in this division quarry stone, sand and clay, or mine other minerals such as metal ores, coal, salt and minerals for chemicals and fertilisers.

The work includes cutting and rough trimming of building stone, crushing of stone and gravel, dredging of sand and gravel, and the extraction of clay. It also includes the mining of other materials, such as peat and abrasive materials. Crude petroleum and natural gas are in a different division.
