SSIC Section O – Administrative and support service activities

Companies in this section do support work that other businesses and, in some cases, households pay for on a fee or contract basis.

Many firms could do these tasks with their own staff, but choose to buy them from a specialist. The work includes renting out cars, machinery and other goods, finding and supplying staff, running travel agencies and tour operations, and providing security guards and investigators.

The section also covers cleaning of buildings and public places, pest control, landscape care, office and secretarial services, call centres, event and exhibition organisers, debt collection, credit rating and packaging. Unlike professional services, the main purpose here is to support daily operations, not to pass on specialist knowledge.
